About the Website

On various occasions throughout the day, the average coder wants to tear his or her hair out. Why? Because of that annoying little bug on line 315 in their code they just can't seem to find. Or Internet Explorer. Take your pick.

headdesk:
Verb
The action where a head slams into a desk, hopefully figuratively speaking.

This website exists for me as a creative outlet and a testing spot. I love to write, code and design, which is why I chose this media.

Goals

I am usually the type of person who jumps into things. With webdesign, it's different. Even though when I first started, I jumped (as with all other things) directly into the new hobby, I make plans nowadays. Am I growing up? Doubtfully. What I do know is that I want to continue on developing my skill set. Webdesigner or webdeveloper are definitely occupations I could see myself doing in the future.

I started this website with personal development in mind. I think I have come pretty far since back in January 2009, when this website was created. The first goal in mind was to become good at PHP. Previously, the only thing I made in PHP were a buggy guestbook and an unsafe blogging system for school. How those managed to not get hacked with the large audience, I'm still trying to figure out. Perhaps people liked me, or perhaps I went to school with not-so-technical people. Both seem plausible.

In the moment of writing (07th of March 2010) I just implemented CMSv3. This third version of my content management system has taken me since summer to write. While not all the goals I had for this version have been met just yet, they're definitely coming.

The two main features I have that are still not implemented are a commenting system (but feel free to email me) and RSS feeds.

I had a list of goals I wrote out this summer of what I wanted to learn in the upcoming year. Here's the list again, the bolded items are the ones I've gotten around to doing:

While this will always be a work in progress since there's no real end to a learning process, I am happy to say that I'm already getting my hands deep in the bolded subjects.

Why No Commenting?

Headdesk.nu is a rarely updated blog. Why I haven't implemented a commenting feature yet is because of the reality that I don't need one. It will be there in the future and it will be awesome, but it's also not on the top priorities list.

Most comments I got before were from people why were trying to promote their own blog. I think that scheme is outdated. If you are generally interested in what I write, or have a question or input, please contact me.
